In 2023 we began Hatheh as an independent news agency, with great hope and an even greater vision. Our foremost aim is to uncover the truth of events and deliver the most accurate and reliable information to the public. This is far more than simply writing the news — it is a great trust we carry on behalf of the people.

In pursuing the news we lean on no one. Working with complete independence, without taking sides, is our strongest foundation. We report free of any influence, with a firm resolve to present the truth as it is.

Our newsroom philosophy is transparent, trustworthy journalism. When information reaches us, establishing how true it is comes first. We publish nothing until every piece of information has been verified through multiple channels.

Earning the public's trust is our greatest achievement. We will always stand by these principles, on the side of the truth.

Editorial Policy

Hatheh's editorial principles are built on honesty, independence, and the religious and social standards of the Maldives.

1. Respect for Islamic principles: ensuring that every story and piece of information we publish does not conflict with the noble tenets of Islam or the Constitution of the Maldives.
2. Truthful reporting: delivering accurate information to the public without distortion, addition, or omission.
3. Verification: confirming the accuracy of information before any story is published.
4. Independence: reporting the news without falling under any political or commercial influence, and without taking sides.
5. Source confidentiality: treating the protection of those who provide information — and the confidentiality of sources — as one of the newsroom's foremost duties.
6. Respect for dignity: practising journalism in a way that never diminishes any person's human dignity or reputation, and that respects private life.
7. Right of reply: when a story makes an allegation against a party, seeking their side and giving priority to including their response.
8. Corrections: when an error appears in a published story, correcting it as quickly as possible and disclosing the correction to readers.
